Located at the Latin Quarter area of Paris, The Paris Museum of Middle Ages is housed at the Cluny abbot’s mansion, which was build over the ruins of Gallo-Roman baths. At 1485 Jacques d’Amboise built the current building offering the Benedictine monks a place to stay. It took 13 years to complete the construction.
Hotel de Cluny was damaged during the French Revolution but restored. It became Musee de Cluny in 1844. Inside you can find great collections of Gallo-Roman ruins and Medieval arts, including costumes, paintings, great tapestries and sculptures. Lady and the unicorn tapestries are one of the most famous collections of Musee de Cluny.
Recently the museum added a Medieval garden around Hotel de Cluny.
