Arash Derambarsh, a municipal Councillor is the man behind the campaign that brought forward the bill to eliminate supermarket food waste.

Mr. Derambarsh found it ridiculous to have food wasted or bleached when there are hungry people around. He was not a stranger to hunger neither. As a law student on a small € 400  income, he faced hunger everyday. That is how he came up with his campaign to help others.

At the begining of his campaign, Mr. would collect unwanted food from supermarkets and distribute them mainly to low income single mothers, pensioners or those living in shelters.

Now it is illegal in France to have supermarkets to waste their unwanted or approaching expiry date food. Instead they have to donate them to charities otherwise they may face jail time.

Mr. Derambarsh is hoping to get other European countries on board with his campaign.
